When we bought our Buppa's Bed, we were worried about how our toddler would deal with the transition from cot to bed. We'd planned to introduce the bed to the room for a few days before moving him into it. However, upon seeing his new 'big boy bed' our little one promptly grabbed a blanket and climbed in. We love the bed almost as much as he does.

The Buppa's Beds Story
Almost two years ago, my daughter asked me to make a bed for her son, Henry, who was fast reaching the stage when he would need to move out of his cot and into a proper bed. I sketched out some plans and developed a good idea of what such a bed should look like. This was what might be regarded as the 'conception' stage.
Birth would be some time away as quality timber, screws, bolts, glue and paint had to be brought together and moulded into a form that could proudly take its place in a little boy's bedroom. This took less than nine months [!] but eventually a little piece of furniture was produced to the delight of the above-mentioned little boy and his parents. Every piece was lovingly assembled and painted in the shed at the bottom of my garden.
My personal brief was to construct a bed that was to be solid, safe and an attractive item of furniture. Surfaces had to be smooth and rounded. The bed had to be close to the floor so that falls would have little impact. Paints had to be non-toxic.
Henry's bed was duly delivered, tested and found to be sound in all respects. Henry clearly loved his first BIG bed and squealed with delight as he clambered in long before his real bedtime. It had to be explained to him that he would have to wait a little longer before he could properly enjoy his new bed! It was clear that he felt more independent, more grown-up. This was a very big step for a toddler wanting to exert some control over his environment and find his place in the world as he saw it.
Friends who saw the bed loved it and understood how well Henry had adjusted to his new lifestyle. More 'cute' beds had to be made to meet this demand; and a range of colours was introduced:cherry red, princess pink, crisp white, powder blue and daffodil yellow.
And this is how Buppa's Beds began life. My beds are built to withstand any amount of tumbling, backflips, bouncing and pummeling; and can be safely handed down to the next toddler in the family. Buppa's Beds is a family business, involving my wife, daughter, and the [now] two grandchildren who will be heavily involved in on-going testing and quality control.

Buppa was the name given to me by my first grandson, Henry, when he was just over 12 months old. I told him that I was going to make him his first big bed and while he did not fully understand, he was very excited. I had constructed various things in the past such as my shed, pergolas, single beds, a room addition to our house and a chicken coop.
